Mahamudra, or the "Great Seal", is a vast system of practicing and realizing the ultimate nature of mind. This tradition is famous in the Kagyü lineages of Tibet. Some of the specialties of Mahamudra include the gradual trainings of calm abiding and special insight, the Four Yogas of Mahamudra, the Six Dharmas of TilopaCoemergent MahamudraFive-fold Mahamudra, and so forth. Mahamudra is often practiced in retreat with the elaborate practice of the Six Dharmas of Naropa
as a powerful means of enhancement.

Ven. Dhyani Ywahoo and the
Sunray Peace Village

This event is co-sponsored by the Sunray Meditation Society and Sunray Peace Village. The DDCV thanks the Sunray community and especially Ven. Dhyani Ywahoo for allowing this retreat to take place at Sunray, one of the most beautiful sacred places in Lincoln, VT, the Valley of the Dakini's.

The DDCV also thanks Ven. Dhyani Ywahoo for her tireless work since the early 80's in bringing Tibetan Buddhism to Lincoln, VT as well as her support for HH Chetsang Rinpoche in the revival of the Drikung Kagyu lineage.

It is also Ven. Dhyani's hard work that made it possible for the first Drikung nunnery in the US as well her student going on to become the first female Khenpo or Khenmo in the Drikung Kagyu lineage.

Ven. Dhyani's hard work made it possible for the Dharma to fully blossom and thrive in this valley and has touched and changed peoples lives all across the world.

This event is also an example of two spiritual communities working together for the benefit of all sentient beings. In these times it is more common for centers to compete with each other, very rare for them to work together by putting the Dharma into practice. We hope this is a meaningful example for showing what is possible if we all come together in the Dharma.

So we again thank Ven. Dhyani Ywahoo and Sunray and look forward to this healing event and the seeds it will plant for the future that will bring benefit to all sentient beings.

May all spiritual communities be in harmony with each other and work together to benefit all beings.

Lincoln, VT, home to the DDCV 10 minutes from Bristol, is a small town of 1600 people. It has a rich spiritual history going back originally to the Native Americans. The town was originally settled by Quakers. It has a vibrant Christian church. The first Tibetan Lama to visit Lincoln was the 16th Karmapa. In 1978 Kalu Rinpoche established a center. In the 80's and 90's Ven. Dhyani Ywahoo brought many Tibetan teachers such as HH Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang, Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen, Khenpo Palden Sherab and others. In the 2000 the Peace Stupa was built in Lincoln at a sight chosen by HH Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche. In 2001 The DDCV was founded by Lho Ontul Rinpoche and has brought many Tibetan Lama's such as HE Garchen Rinpoche, Lamchen Gyalpo Rinpoche, Terton Kunsang Dechen Lingpa, Ven. Traga Rinpoche, Lho Bontrul Rinpoche, Lho Thupten Nima, Lamchen Gyalpo Rinpoche, Drupon Rinchen Dorje, Drupon Trinley Nyingpo, Drupon Samten, Khenpo Sherab Ozer, Khenpo Nima, HE Tritsab Rinpoche and other Lamas who reflect the full spectrum of Dharma. Much thanks needs to be given to the kindness of the Lincoln and Bristol community. Without the openness to diversity of our kind neighbors none of this would have been possible.

   Treasure Cave above Bristol
Above Bristol is a cave that the great Treasure Revealer Kunsang Dechen Lingpa discovered in a dream. Rinpoche believed this cave would be a place where treasure teachings could be revealed.

Vajrayogini Cave
As you enter Lincoln you see a waterfall. Behind this waterfall is a cave that was sacred to the Native Americans as well as being recognized by HH Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang as Vajrayogini cave.

Lincoln Peace Stupa
This stupa was built in Lincoln in 2000 at a site chosen by HH Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, under the guidance of Drupon Samten, Lama Palden, Ven. Dhyani Ywahoo and with the help of volunteers from Sunray and other local spiritual community members. It embodies the peaceful relations in Lincoln between different spiritual groups as well as the local community.

Yangzab Dharmakaya Amitabha Empowerment:
Secret Accomplishment of the Sole Syllable

This is a rare opportunity to receive one of the most important practices of the Yangzab Dzogchen treasure teaching cycle. This has only been given in the US once previously at the DDCV by Lamchen Gyalpo Rinpoche.
The practice of Amitabha is one of the most beneficial practices to do especially in these degenerate times when the causes and conditions for successfully practicing Dharma become more difficult. Through the practice of Amitabha, simply through having faith and devotion in Buddha Amitabha at death one will be born in Buddha Amitabha's Pureland of Great Bliss, where one will successfully complete all stages of the path until reaching Buddhahood.

HE Garchen Rinpoche's root Lama Khenpo Munsel said that when he went to the West, teaching on the practice of Buddha Amitabha and his Pureland would be most beneficial. This is because, of all the Pure Lands, Buddha Amitabha's is the easiest to be reborn in at the time of death. All other Purelands require being at the 8th Bhumi level of practice to enter. So Buddha Amitabha's Pureland is very unique and the Yangzab Dharmakaya Amitabha practice very profound yet easy to practice.

As HH Chetsang Rinpoche has said, this is the only pureland you can enter with karmic defilements, all other pure lands you cannot enter until these defilements are purified. So for 99.9 % of practitioners Buddha Amitabha's Pureland is the most attainable.

After this rare empowerment the transmission will be given for Dharmakaya Amitabha: The secret accomplishment of the Sole Syllable. This authorizes one to engage in the Yangzab Dharmakaya Amitabha practice. This profound practice focuses on the essence seed syllable of Amitabha and is unlike other Amitabha practices, the lineage is strong and the blessings swift and profound.

Great Awakening Meditation Retreat
Mahamudra Instructions That Liberate:

These teachings will focus on the Mahamudra section of The Words of Vajradhara Dharmakirti (Rigdzin Chödrak).

This text is considered one of the most important commentaries on the Path of Fivefold Mahamudra and is generally given only in Three Year Retreat.

The Mahamudra section in particular contains the quintessence of the pith oral instructions on realizing and abiding in the nature of mind that have come down from the primordial Buddha Vajradhara, the great Indian Mahasiddhas such as Tilopa, Naropa, Saraha, the great Tibetan masters such as Marpa, Milarepa, Gampopa, Phagmodrupa, and Lord Jigten Sumgon.

In this text one is guided through a series of introductions to Mind's true nature. The Path of Fivefold Mahamudra is a profound system which helps bring about realization through practical and skillful means and in essence contains the complete path to Buddhahood.

Practitioners will find these pith instructions to be of great practical benefit to one's practice through the power of the blessings that flow down through a living lineage of realization right to the present moment. Don't miss this rare opportunity.

Drupon Thinley Peru 1
Drupon Thinley Ningpo Rinpoche's Biography:

The Venerable Drupon Thinley Ningpo Rinpoche was born in the Nagchu district of Tibet.  From his earliest years, Ven. Thinley Ningpo was distinguished by a loving and compassionate nature and an active concern for the welfare of others.  He entered school at the age of eight and diligently pursued his elementary education. As he became the outstanding student in his school, he was rewarded with an appointment as teacher for the lower grades when he turned 17 years old.  At that time he held a second job as a clerk for the municipal government. In addition to his teaching and clerical work, Ven. Thinley Ningpo pursued studies in veterinary medicine.

After continuing this work for some time, his natural inclination towards religion developed into a determination to pursue higher spiritual studies.  His father supported his decision and applied to the proper authorities. He then entered Drong Ngur Monastery where he became a student of the eminent Buddhist scholar, Lama Kedrub Siddhi Rinpoche, who chose him from among all the new students to be his disciple.  He engaged in the study of a wide range of Drikung Buddhist traditions, including ritual practices, mandala and stupa design and construction, and the art of producing bronze images of sacred beings. He was subsequently made director of the project to construct a new main stupa for the monastery.

After completing this formidable project in an excellent manner, he went on a pilgrimage to Drikung Thil Monastery where he met the great yogin and scholar, Drubwang Pachung Rinpoche. Ven. Thinley Ningpo was inspired to ask for the essential precepts for the higher spiritual practices.  Recognizing his unique abilities, Pachung Rinpoche agreed and asked him to return at daybreak. He thus was able to receive the profound essence instructions in the practice and mastery of the peerless Mahamudra.

In 1988, Ven. Thinley Ningpo went on a pilgrimage to the sacred places of Tibet.  This brought him to the western regions where he took a fortuitous opportunity to escape to India which was accomplished through a very perilous two-month journey on foot across the Himalayas.  Once safely in India, he proceeded to the Drikung Kagyu temple and entered into the institute of higher education. After completing his course of study, he was appointed as dean of the institute, serving in this capacity for six years.

Ven. Thinley Ningpo spent 1994 in spiritual retreat, during which time he accomplished all the preliminary practices of the Fivefold Mahamudra.  He then went to the Dorje Redrubde hermitage in Almora where he entered into the traditional three-year retreat, accomplishing the practices of the Fivefold Mahamudra and the profound path of the Six Yogas of Naropa.  He participated in the Drikung Kagyu Snake Year teaching retreat where he received the entire body of Drikung Kagyu empowerments, transmissions, and instructions for advanced practice. In this way he completed the process of advanced training in all the profound and sacred traditions of the Drikung lineage and earned the title of Drupon, "master of spiritual attainment."

Motivated by his deep and constant desire to help others to attain liberation, Ven. Thinley Ningpo traveled to America where he served as Spiritual Director and Retreat Master of the Tibetan Meditation Center in Frederick, MD.

Drupon-la now travels extensively with the blessing of HH Drikung Kyabgön Chetsang Rinpoche, teaching the precious Dharma and leading students in retreat.  He has traveled to South America in the last two years and keeps a busy domestic and international travel schedule for teaching and retreat.

Drupon Rinpoche has recently relocated to Wesley Chapel, FL, just north of Tampa, and is establishing a Dharma center for study, practice and retreat there.  We have been very blessed here in Florida by Drupon-la's kindness and practical wisdom, which shine forth like the rays of the sun. Drupon-la possesses the special quality of being able to deeply understand the needs of Western students and to provide the Dharma teachings needed in the moment so that they can progress on the path.
